Writing Concentration
Mercyhurst College offers a writing concentration under the English major for students interested in a career in writing, whether in journalism, publishing, or other fields.
An English major with a concentration in writing must take:
- Two 100-level courses in addition to the core:
- World Classics
- Western Classics
- British Classics
- American Classics
- Four 200-level preseminar courses
- Three 300-level special topics seminars in literature
- Seven designated courses as follows:
- Advanced Composition
- Professional Writing Seminar
- Oral Interpretation
- Applied Linguistics
- 20th Century Criticism
- History of Criticism
- Senior English Project (professional or technical writing project)
- Four electives in computer technology, communications, graphic design, or discipline-specific cluster
